Writing a Self Assessment
How to Guide
The Self Assessment section of your Performance Appraisal is your opportunity to highlight your accomplishments, illustrate your growth and identify the areas where you would like to focus. Your input should be thoughtful, honest and reflective of the entire year.
Leverage this guide sheet for thought-starter ideas and questions you may want to reflect upon as part of your Self Assessment. It is recommended your Self Assessment be approximately one paragraph in length.
What have you accomplished?
- Describe several key accomplishments during this review period (e.g. against the Performance Factors).
- Describe how you leveraged your strengths to execute against your responsibilities.
- Describe the impact your contributions have made to the organization. Include key metrics and/or qualitative data if possible.
- Highlight any new initiatives or process improvements you made and their outcome.
What have you learned?
- Did you learn any new skills? Further develop any skills?
- How did these new or further developed skills improve your performance?
- Have you taken on any new tasks/projects?
- What are you most proud of?
What are you looking forward to next year?
- Describe any project and/or task force you look forward to focusing on next year.
- Provide insights on the specific type of development opportunities you would like to get next year.
- Provide insights into the skills or capability areas you look forward to growing.
